As part of The Miami Dolphins and Florida’s Blood Centers (FBC) third annual Touchdown for Life blood drive on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 and to simultaneously promote Ford Championship Weekend on November 18-20, Carl Edwards, currently leading the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, joined Homestead-Miami Speedway and Contender Boats at Sun Life Stadium for a “Field Goal for a Ford” promotion. If Edwards made two field goals a couple of lucky donors would be driving home brand new Mustangs courtesy of the South Florida Ford Dealers Association, and paid for by Odds On Promotions.
The Touchdown for Life blood drive is one of the largest single-day blood drives in the state of Florida. This year, the Dolphins and FBC hoped to break the previous record of 1,565 pints of blood set last year. The first 1,750 registered participants received a free ticket to a Miami Dolphin’s game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 20th. All donors who participated had the opportunity to meet Dolphins players, cheerleaders and alumni, obtain autographs and get a free Touchdown for Life t-shirt.
Edwards, driver of the Roush Fenway Racing No. 99 AFLAC Ford Fusion, is the defending 2010 Ford 400 winner at Homestead-Miami Speedway. In seven career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts in South Florida, Edwards has four Top-5 and six Top-10 finishes including two victories (2008, 2010). He and his Roush Fenway Racing teammates have won seven of the 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
